HP has lopped a massive stg£250 off the price of its new Pre3 smartphone, a casualty of the company’s decision to axe its webOS division. The move comes as TouchPad tablet devices cut to just stg£100 have been selling out all over the world.
HP last week ‘quietly’ launched its Pre3 smartphone, a successor to the Palm Pre – just hours before it emerged that the company planned to ditch its Personal Systems Group (PSG) as well webOS tablet and smartphone division, formerly Palm, that it acquired only a year ago for US$1.2bn.
The price reduction means consumers can get their hands on a top of the range smartphone for under stg£50.
However, it has not yet been confirmed which retailers will be selling the device in Europe or the US. If it is BestBuy in the US then most likely a retailer with a high street presence such as Carphone Warehouse is likely.
The new smartphone comes with a large WVGA display, a vertical, slide-out keyboard and a 1.4GHz processor.
The smartphone comes with the next generation of Touchstone technology, which enables better sharing between the Pre3 and the TouchPad by simply tapping them together.
The camera on the device is 5-mexapixels and the display is 3.5-inches in size.
It includes 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
