Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs
The co-founder and former CEO of consumer electronics giant Apple, Steve Jobs, died of respiratory arrest caused by a pancreatic tumour, according to a death certificate.
The Santa Clara County Public Health Department yesterday released the official death certificate for Jobs, who died on 5 October at his home in Palo Alto, California, at 3pm (11pm Irish time). An autopsy was not performed on the body.
Jobs’ family held a private funeral for him on 7 October, and he was laid to rest in the non-denominational Alta Mesa Memorial Park cemetery in Santa Clara County, according to the certificate.
The certificate also states the immediate cause of death as respiratory arrest due to the “metastatic pancreas neuroendocrine tumour” as the underlying cause of the respiratory issues.
Jobs had been dealing with health issues the past few years. He had surgery for pancreatic cancer in August 2004, and had a liver transplant in April 2009. In January of this year, he announced he would be taking an indeterminate leave of absence from Apple. In late August, he resigned from the CEO role.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company is planning a celebration of Jobs’ life for Apple employees that will take place soon. Apple has said no service for the public will take place.
Jobs is survived by his wife, Laurene, and five children.
