Sony Computer Entertainment Europe unveiled the launch titles for upcoming portable console PS Vita, as well as its AR capabilities and new apps.

The full range of launch titles for the PlayStation Vita in Europe was announced at a preview event in London. The titles included:

  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss
  • WipEout 2048
  • Reality Fighters
  • Little Deviants
  • ModNation Racers: Road Trip
  • Everybody’s Golf
  • Top Darts
  • Hustle Kings
  • Unit 13
  • MotorStorm RC

Unit 13 and MotorStorm RC were two newly announced titles for the portable console. Unit 13 is a third-person military shooter, tasking players with missions in “the most hostile regions in the world.” They will face up against terrorists, dictators, gunrunners, warlords and drug traffickers.

Players can chose from six different classes – infiltrator, sniper, soldier, technician, point man and support – to suit their playing style.

MotorStorm RC mixes old-school and contemporary racing, letting players build a garage of vehicles, with DLC and expansion packs available to add to the game.

Augmented reality

The PS Vita will be the first console to use wide area augmented reality technology, which uses up to six cards to allow for a larger gameplay area. The console will also support markerless AR, which can remove the need for cards altogether.

The PS Vita will also include six augmented reality cards at launch with free games to download from the PlayStation Store which will take advantage of the console’s AR capabilities.

Online

As previously announced, the PS Vita has chosen Vodafone as its preferred partner for 3G connectivity. Along with its built-in Facebook, Skype, Foursquare and Twitter apps, the PS Vita will have a Flickr app.

Other built-in apps includes ‘party,’ which lets players use voice or text chat while they play online or use different apps and ‘live area,’ a portal for news and gaming updates from friends.

‘Near’ lets gamers find out what others are playing in the area they’re in, letting them share and discover gifts which can be used in games.

Another app called ‘Cross-Play’ allows gamers to play head-to-head in real time to the PlayStation 3, letting them see PS3-quality graphics on the PS Vita. Players can compete with challenges and leaderboards on the PS3 or Vita and continue their experiences from one console to the other.
