The iPad 2
Apple and Samsung are reportedly preparing to unveil new tablets in February of next year, with both devices rumoured to have a much-improved screen resolution.
Business Insider reports that Citi analyst Richard Gardner said the next iPad will launch in February, citing "several sources." Normally, Apple reveals its new iPad in March of each year.
He said there are no technical hurdles left to delay the launch of a high-resolution iPad and said the next iPad’s screen will double the resolution of the current 1,024 x 768 model.
Meanwhile, BGR reports that Samsung is preparing an 11.6-inch tablet running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
It may have a thinner bezel than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and may sport a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution display. The tablet could also be equipped with a dual core 2GHz Exynos 5250 CPU.
Other features may include Android Beam for media syncing and wireless docking for gaming on HDTVs.
If these rumours are true, then both tablets could have a similar release date, pitting the two tech giants directly against each other in the tablet arena. Both Samsung and Apple are engaged in numerous patent lawsuits across the globe over their tablets and smartphones.
Currently, the iPad has yet to be dethroned by any competitor, as it still remains the highest-selling tablet.
