More rumours about the next Xbox are emerging, with reports suggesting it will be six times more powerful than the Xbox 360 and that it could be released in October or November of next year.

IGN reports its sources claim the Xbox 720, as it’s currently known, will reportedly be six times more powerful than the Xbox 360 and will offer 20pc better performance than Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U console.

Mass production of the next Xbox’s GPU will reportedly begin by the end of 2012. It may be based on AMD’s 6000 series, specifically to that of the Radeon HD 6670 which supports DirectX11, 1080p HD output, 3D and multidisplay output.

Developers are expected to receive development kits for the system’s final configuration in August and the console will reportedly be released in October or November 2013. Previous reports suggested that the Xbox 720 will be released sometime between 2013 and 2015.

If this is the case, then both Microsoft and Nintendo will get a head start with their next-generation consoles, as Sony has previously said it won’t be revealing a new PlayStation console at this year’s E3 video-game tradeshow.

Kazuo Hirai, who is responsible for Sony’s video game division, said the PlayStation 3 has a “10-year life cycle” and doesn’t believe that the company will stray from this. As the PlayStation 3 debuted in 2006, this would suggest that the PlayStation 4 will see a release sometime in 2016.
