Apple’s dramatic revamp of notebook range starting with MacBook Pro
The MacBook Air - will the next generation of MacBook Pro machines look more like this?
Apple is believed to be planning a "top-to-bottom" revamp of its entire notebook line-up. MacBook Pro machines are going to go in the direction of the MacBook Air ultrabook style of computer, with an ultra-thin body.
According to AppleInsider Apple will also jettison optical disk drives and traditional hardrives in favour of flash-memory solid state drives, instant-on capabilities and software will be acquired via the Mac App Store.
Quoting people familiar with the new line up the report described the new MacBook Pro line-up as akin to MacBook Air ultrabooks.
The move is likely to distance Apple once again from the competition, which are scrambling to bring out ultrabook computers.
With the latest Intel Core i5 and Core i7 dual-core processors and ThunderBolt technology, the current generation MacBook Air also features Intel HD Graphics 3000 and offers up to 4GB of faster 1,333 MHz memory. Intel predicts that as much as 20pc of all notebook sales this year will be ultrabook-style machines.
Recent reports suggested Apple was developing a new ultra-thin 15-inch notebook computer. Could this be the shape of the next generation of MacBook Pro machines?
