After Apple confirmed the unveiling the date of the next iPad, reports are now suggesting that a new Apple TV could launch alongside it at the same event.
9to5 Mac reports that its sources claim that Apple will launch its new TV on 7 March when it unveils its next iPad.
The new TV was first hinted at in Walter Isaacson’s recent Steve Jobs biography, where the late Apple cofounder said that he had “finally cracked it.”
The next Apple TV is rumoured to have a variation of the dual-core A5 chip with an improved graphics engine and the ability to stream full HD (1080p) footage.
It could also have a redesigned Bluetooth 4.0 remote control and support for voice assistant Siri.
Near-immediate launch for next iPad?
The same report also quotes sources who suggest that the next iPad shipments are already landing at ports in multiple countries across the globe, meaning that the device could be available within a week or two from the announcement.
This rumour matches a report from MacRumors which said that a series of high-security flights from China were shipping units of the next iPad to the US between 27 February and 9 March. Three flights may have gone to Chicago, two may have gone to Los Angeles and one may have gone to New York. A separate flight on March 5 was also reportedly planned for Tokyo, Japan.
In Ireland, the iPad 2 was launched at the end of March last year, about four weeks after it was unveiled.
The next iPad is rumoured to have a Retina Display, a quad-core Apple A6 chipset, will be slightly thicker and may have 4G LTE connectivity. However, nothing will be confirmed until the event itself on 7 March.
