Struggling GAME will not stock EA games, including Mass Effect 3

29 Feb 2012

Struggling video-game retailer GAME will not stock any EA games after snowboarding game SSX is launched in March, which includes the highly anticipated Mass Effect 3.

Eurogamer reports that an internal memo told staff members that GAME could only offer games it has “the right credit terms” for regardless of the title or supplier.

The retailer said that as a result, in order to help its long-term health as a business, it will not be able to stock any EA games. It will refund customers with in-store credit.

Along with being unable to stock Mass Effect 3, which will be released on 9 March, GAME will not stock FIFA Street 3, Tiger Woods 13 and Sims 3 Showtime.

EA advised customers who have pre-ordered their games at GAME to re-order through other retailers.

GAME will also not be stocking Nintendo’s Mario Party 9 over similar concerns. Previously, it was unable to stock Ubisoft titles for the launch of the PlayStation Vita until a few days later.

The retailer has been struggling recently, experiencing a stg£18m loss in the year to 31 January 2012. There were concerns it may breach its EBITDA test after it saw fewer sales over Christmas, but it said support from its stakeholders and lenders will help avoid this when they are tested on 27 February.

GAME has 1,300 stores under the GAME and Gamestation brands across Europe.
