Microsoft will not unveil the next Xbox console at this year’s biggest games conference E3. Reports suggest that the company will unveil and release the console in 2013.
Citing Microsoft sources, Bloomberg reports that the successor to the Xbox 360 will be unveiled at the E3 gaming conference in June 2013. It would then be released later that year.
Earlier, a Microsoft spokesperson said the company won’t discuss new Xbox hardware at this year’s E3 conference.
The spokesperson said the focus for this year’s E3 will be the Xbox 360, saying it’s "the best year ever" for the console.
He said the Xbox 360 was not only the biggest selling console last year but outsold other TV-connected devices, such as DVD players and home theatre systems, meaning Microsoft isn’t ready to push it aside for a newer model just yet.
Early rumours about the next Xbox suggest it could be six times more powerful than the Xbox 360 and that developers could get development kits for the console in August of this year. It may also have an anti-used game system.
