The new iPad

Apple is investigating a series of Wi-Fi-related issues affecting the new third-generation iPad. An internal AppleCare document reveals issues around slow Wi-Fi speeds, intermittent connectivity or no visibility of available wireless networks.

The document was uncovered by 9to5mac.com. A thread discussing the issue on Apple.com had more than 714 replies at the time of writing.

The Wi-Fi issues appear to be affecting the Wi-Fi-only version of the new iPad.

Some users say the Wi-Fi signal starts out strong before going weak or disappearing.

Others are noticing the problem from the moment they try to connect their brand new device to their local network.

However, some replies to the threat note that a simple reset of their local wireless router usually solves the problem and the iPad comes roaring back to life wirelessly.

Apple is endeavouring to "capture" - internal parlance for getting the device packed up and shipped back to HQ - any new iPad models that have demonstrated wireless issues and provide owners with new units.
