Ultra-slim 15-inch MacBook Pro with stunning Retina display on the way
Apple is getting ready to reveal a new ultra-thin member of the MacBook Pro family that will boast a 15-inch screen, will come with a Retina display and will feature USB 3 technology. In striving to meet Apple’s new standards for notebook thinness, the new MacBook Pro won’t include an optical drive.
The new addition to the MacBook Pro family is understood to be showing up in benchmark results along with new members of the iMac.
According to MacRumors, the devices are showing up in GeekBench's database, with the MacBook Pro listed as carrying an Intel Ivy Bridge core i7-3820QM quad-core processor running at 2.7GHz.
The unreleased system carries a benchmark of 12,262 compared to 10,500 for the Core i7-2860QM in currently available MacBook Pro lines.
According to 9to5Mac, the new MacBook Pro is being described as being an ultra-thin version of the latest MacBook Pro and will be thinner and more robust, omitting an optical drive in favour of achieving a new Apple standard for notebook thinness.
It is also a sign that delivery of software via the Mac App Store is seen as the way forward by professionals who won't shed a tear at the loss of an optical drive.
