9m pre-orders already received for Samsung Galaxy S III
Before the release of Samsung’s latest smartphone handset later this month, 9m people across the world have registered their interest with the Galaxy S III by placing pre-orders with mobile carriers.
The Korea Economic Daily reported today that Samsung has received 9m pre-orders for the recently launched Galaxy S III smartphone, according to Reuters.
The orders account for more than 100 carriers worldwide and the huge figure comes as little surprise, considering Samsung’s increasing popularity as the world’s No 1 smartphone vendor, with sales representing more than 40pc of the total Android-based market worldwide.
Irish consumers eyeing the must-have phone need not despair, as Three began taking pre-orders for the much-coveted phone today at 9am. “Three Ireland has seen unprecedented interest in the Samsung Galaxy S III, which prompted us to act fast and respond to our customers by giving them the option to pre-order,” said Rachel Channing, the mobile operator’s communications director.
“Three is the only network in Ireland taking pre-orders right now. Already, after just one morning of taking pre-orders it's looking like early interest will surpass that of the Galaxy S II,” she added.
The third-generation Galaxy S III features a 4.8-inch AMOLED display, 8MP camera, voice and face recognition and many more tempting features. It will first go on sale on 29 May in Germany while Ireland will see its release a day later on 30 May.
