London 2012 table tennis dominates Google Doodle
The London 2012 table tennis Google Doodle
Internet search giant Google is tipping its hat to the Olympic sport of table tennis with a Doodle on its homepage.
Google has been featuring Olympic-themed Doodles - stylised Google logos - on its homepage since the Games kicked off in London on 27 July.
Today's Doodle depicts table tennis players lobbing a ball over a net that contains the word 'Google'. The paddle of one tennis player cleverly forms one of the o letters in 'Google'.
Table tennis, according to London 2012, is the world's largest participation sport that originated in the late 19th century as a game upper-class English families played after dinner.
Today, athletes specialising in the sport must demonstrate power, subtlety and lightning-fast reflexes.
London 2012 table tennis events began on 28 July and run until 8 August, and include 172 athletes (86 men and 86 women). There are four medal events: men's singles, women's singles, men's team and women's team.
The London 2012 Olympics conclude on 12 August.
