Nokia’s energy breakthrough – Lumia 920 to come with wireless charging pad

4 Sep 2012

Nokia’s forthcoming Windows Phone 8 smartphone – the Lumia 920 – will come with an innovative new charge pad that allows users to simply place their device on the pad and it will begin charging.

Nokia will be unveiling a new family of devices in New York on 5 September that will not only be powered by the Windows Phone 8 operating system from Microsoft (due out on 27 October, just a day after the launch of the full Windows 8 operating system), but may be accompanied by a slew of new accessories, including a Bluetooth headset.

The wireless charging capability is made possible through an inductive method and will be compatible with the Qi wireless power standard.

According to various reports, the device will come with a 4.5-inch display and will include 32GB of storage, 1GB of RAM and will be powered by a 1.5GHz processor.

It will also come with an 8-megapixel PureView camera at the back and a 1.3-megapixel camera at the front.

Images of the wireless charging device were apparently leaked last night on Twitter by Evleaks.
