Apple invites press to special iPhone event on 12 September

5 Sep 2012

Apple has invited the tech press to a special launch event on 12 September which no doubt means the launch of the next-generation iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 5. The event will be happening at 10am in San Francisco, California, and simultaneously at 6pm in London.

The invitation-only events signal the long-awaited arrival of the iPhone 5 smartphone, which the rumour mill indicates will have a larger 4-inch display than previous 3.5-inch models.

The device is also expected to come with a new smaller connector, a large metal back and will be powered by the new iOS 6 operating system. Rumours suggest Apple may launch new iPods at the same time, and recent analysis suggests Apple may launch the much-anticipated smaller, 7-inch iPad at a separate event in October.

The latest reports from the US suggest the new iPhone will go on sale on 21 September following the usual launch pattern from Apple, which means the rest of world can receive the smartphone from early October.

The invitations give little away only to say ‘It’s almost here’, followed by a large calendar-style No 12 with a nice shadow effect inviting press to the event.

We’ll be keeping you posted as events unfold. Stay tuned.

(Hint – look at the shape of the number ‘5’ in the shadow of the 12)
