Jonathan Ive, the brain behind the design of Apple products such as the iPad, iMac, iPhone and MacBook Pro, will now design a one-of-a-kind Leica M camera, Leica’s owner Andreas Kaufmann has announced.
Only one unit of the camera will be made and it will be auctioned off for charity in collaboration with U2 frontman Bono, CNET reported.
Ive is Apple’s senior vice-president, industrial design. No technical specifications or further details about the Leica M camera he will help create have been revealed. Details about the auction have yet to be released, as well.
Among the features of the new Leica M, however, are a high-resolution full-format 24-megapixel CMOS sensor, M-Lenses, Live View, 1080p video capture at 24 and 25 frames-per-second, and new additional focusing methods.
The Leica M camera will be available in early 2013, and as its price is €6,200, the Ive-designed camera may well fetch a notable sum at the charity auction, too.
