Apple is expected to release a brand new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display technology when it unveils the new iPad mini in the coming weeks.
While the precise date of the launch of the new iPad is unknown, with rumours saying between 19 October and 23 October, 9to5 Mac’s Mark Gurman cites “consistently reliable” sources at a high-profile US retailer as claiming a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display technology will be revealed at the same event.
In August, NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim claimed that Samsung, LG Display and Sharp are producing 13.3-inch Retina displays for Apple that will likely be used in a new MacBook Pro.
A 15-inch MacBook Pro featuring Retina display was revealed in June, packing more pixels than the entire population of Ireland. Though Apple also launched two new MacBook Air notebooks at the same time in 11-inch and 13-inch variants, Shim reckoned the 13-inch display will be used in a new MacBook Pro.
The 15-inch MacBook Pro unveiled at the Apple WWDC in June came with an all-Flash architecture and was described by Apple CEO Tim Cook as “the most advanced Mac we have ever built.”
At 220 pixels per inch, the Retina display’s pixel density on the 15-inch is so high the human eye cannot distinguish individual pixels from a normal viewing distance, so text and graphics look incredibly sharp. The Retina display uses IPS technology for a 178-degree wide viewing angle, and has 75pc less reflection and 29pc higher contrast than the previous generation.
According to Gurman’s report, the new 13-inch MacBook will be sold in two configurations with differing processors and storage and will be available to buy shortly after the announcement.
