While Black Friday – a day of discounts that transforms average citizens into rabid consumers – is an American phenomenon, there’s no reason why Irish shoppers can’t get a good deal out of the bargain, especially with offers from Apple, Amazon and GameStop on the table.
Black Friday falls tomorrow, the day after Thanksgiving Day in the US, but Amazon have been releasing new day-long deals every day this week. Black Friday Deals Week will continue until Cyber Monday (26 November), with new deals announced every 24 hours.
The problem with ordering deals from Amazon.com is that shipping and customs may make for less of a bargain. Be thankful, then, that Apple’s Irish online store is having a special one-day shopping event starting at midnight tonight. Though the deals have yet to be revealed, the promo promises something for everyone with exclusive prices available tomorrow only on limited stock – plus free delivery.
Even Ireland’s own GameStop is getting in on the act with an online sale starting tomorrow from 8am to 8pm. The specialist games retailer is offering discounts and special offers on consoles and games – both new and pre-owned – as well as a range of new accessories.
Black Friday shoppers should bear the warning ‘caveat emptor’ in mind, though, as a study published in The Wall Street Journal shows that some deals on the big shopping day really aren’t as good as they seem. According to analysis from Decide, some of the in-demand items on Black Friday are actually cheaper at other times in the year.
