Sony’s latest smartphones, the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, are expected to be unveiled at CES next week. The Consumer Electronics Association trade show kicks off on 8 January in Las Vegas and plenty of new devices and products are expected to see first light at the international event.

The Xperia Z looks to be a new flagship device from Sony, following up on the high-end specifications of the Xperia T, and likely coming at a similar price point. The Xperia ZL is rumoured to come with similar specs but in a slightly smaller handset.

Both devices are expected to feature a 5-inch 1080p display, 13MP Exmor RS camera, 2GB RAM, and a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor coupled with Adreno 320 graphics.

Leaked press images of the two devices side by side show the key differences appear to be the placement of the front-facing camera, appearing on the bottom right of the Xperia ZL, and the notification light at the bottom of the Xperia ZL. Also, the Xperia Z is expected to come with water and dust-resistant features.

Sony is reportedly planning a press conference in China on 15 January to announce the launch of the new devices.
