As we approach Mobile World Congress (taking place in Barcelona from 25 to 28 February), LG has jumped the gun with the announcement of three new smartphones as part of its Optimus L-series II range.
More than 10m units of the Optimus L-series have been sold in its first 10 months, and likely LG is hoping for the same success with the L-series II upgrade. The next-generation devices focus on aesthetics and new design elements have been added to the original L-Series look, including a seamless layout, laser-cut contour and smart LED lighting on the home button.
Each device will feature an IPS display and extended battery capacity compared to the earlier models. First to launch is the Optimus L7II, which will debut in Russia this week. This dual-SIM model features a 4.3-inch WVGA IPS display, 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, 4GB internal storage, 768MB RAM, micro-SD slot, 8MP rear camera with LED flash, front-facing VGA camera, and a hefty 2,460mAh battery.

The L7II will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and, presumably, the other two handsets will also take on Google’s most up-to-date operating system. The L3II will have a 3.2-inch QVGA display and 1,540mAh battery and will arrive later this year alongside the L5II with a 4-inch WVGA display and 1,700 mAh battery.
