Confirmed: Gran Turismo 6 coming to PlayStation 3 in time for Christmas

16 May 2013

It’s official: the latest instalment from PlayStation’s best-selling franchise will arrive in time for the holiday season later this year.

As predicted, the announcement was made by series producer Kazunori Yamauchi during the Gran Turismo 15 Year Celebration Event at the Silverstone Circuit in the UK.

Gran Turismo 6 will carry over all the cars and tracks featured in Gran Turismo 5 while also making a number of additions, including the famous Silverstone Circuit. In total there will be 33 tracks and 71 different layouts plus 1,200 cars with the new game at launch.

A new compact game engine will make it easier to add downloadable content to GT6 and the makers have promised to make new cars and tracks, as well as thousands of custom parts and wheels, available on a continuous basis.

GT6 also claims to have an improved course-maker and even more true-to-life detail. Connectivity to other devices, such as smartphones and tablets, has also been expanded and the game will offer increased social and community functions.

It was also revealed at the event that, in 15 years, the Gran Turismo franchise has seen 70m sales, 10m of which come from 2010’s GT5.

Fans may be disappointed that the game will be arriving on PlayStation 3 instead of the upcoming PlayStation 4 console, but this development was reported earlier this year by Siliconrepublic.com following a round-table discussion with senior VP of SCEE’s Worldwide Studios Michael Denny.
