Pre-orders for the soon-to-be released PlayStation 4 console have been stronger in Ireland than in any other country in the world, a comparison of GameStop global pre-orders suggests.

Consumers in Ireland have also logged the most pre-orders in Europe for the Xbox One console, with Australia having nabbed the most Xbox One pre-orders on a global basis.

The video-game retailer reports that with thousands of PlayStation 4 pre-orders to date, and with 51 stores across the country, Ireland comes out on top on a per store basis, based on the global pre-order comparisons.

The Xbox One will be released in Ireland tomorrow, and the PlayStation 4 will be available in Ireland on 29 November. All 51 GameStop stores across Ireland will be open at midnight to allow pre-order customers to get their hands on the consoles as soon as they go on sale.

Niall Lawlor, vice-president of GameStop Northern Europe, said some pre-orders for the new consoles have stretched back for more than a year.

“I can assure them that the wait is well worth it,” he said.
