Internet search giant Google wants to remind children across Ireland to pick up their art supplies and get doodling for this year’s Doodle 4 Google competition as the 13 December deadline for entries is fast approaching.
Youngsters who enter the competition to create a stylised Google logo around the theme ‘My Adventure’ have a chance to win a €5,000 scholarship towards their third-level studies and have their doodle featured on the Google.ie homepage.
The overall winner and their teacher will also receive a Chromebook laptop and their school will receive a €10,000 technology grant.
Five category winners and their teachers will also receive Chromebooks.
John Herlihy, head of Google Ireland said, the level and quality of the entries to the competition to date have been astonishing.
“We’ve received doodles from all over the country and it’s fantastic to see so much creativity and imagination on this year’s theme ‘My Adventure’,” Herlihy said.
“We want to remind those children that haven’t yet submitted their entries that there is still time to be in with a chance to win and have their doodle seen by millions of people.”
The Doodle 4 Google competition is accepting entries across five age categories:
- Class Group 1 – Junior Infants, Senior Infants
- Class Group 2 – 1st Class, 2nd Class
- Class Group 3 – 3rd Class, 4th Class, 5th Class, 6th Class
- Class Group 4 – 1st Year, 2nd Year, 3rd Year
- Class Group 5 – Transition Year, 5th Year, 6th Year, Youthreach
A panel of judges will select 15 finalists from each class group. The 75 finalists will then have their doodles displayed on the Doodle 4 Google website and the general public will be able to vote for their favourite doodle.
The winners of each category will proceed to a Grand Final event where the overall winner, as chosen by the official Google Doodle team, will be announced in Dublin on 24 March.
