An iPhone and iPad sporting Apple's current operating system, iOS 7
According to Daring Fireball’s John Gruber, iOS 7.1 is on the horizon. The well-informed tech blogger claims the latest mobile operating system from Apple will be required to stream performances from the upcoming iTunes Festival, meaning its release is imminent.
The iTunes Festival has been a regular fixture at London’s Roundhouse art centre since 2007. Its debut in the US starts Tuesday, 10 March, alongside the SXSW festivals taking place in Austin, Texas.
Tickets for the iTunes Festival are given free to iTunes users and fans through prize draws, while those that can’t make it to the event can enjoy the performances through live streaming on iTunes, Apple TV and the iTunes Festival App.
The iTunes Festival is a music concert series sponsored by Apple Inc. First held in 2007, tickets are given away for free to iTunes users and fans through localised prize draws. Performances are also streamed live for free and available to view afterwards for a limited time on iTunes and Apple TV.
Gruber says he has “heard from a little birdie” that the updated 2014 app required to stream the festival to iOS devices will run on iOS 7.1 only, so Apple will need to have the new operating system rolled out before then, naturally.
A beta release of iOS 7.1 was released to developers last month, so we know the software is nearing completion, and an incentive to upgrade can only enhance Apple’s already-laudable OS adoption rates.
