The team behind Fon, the world’s largest Wi-Fi network, have instigated a Kickstarter campaign for a new hardware device called Gramofon that streams cloud music to your soundsystem.
The company is hoping to raise US$250,000 in the next 30 days and is already at over US$30,000.
Fon provides 13m hotspots around the world via a crowdsourced Wi-Fi platform.
The Gramofon device is a small square device that connects to the sound system or speakers of your choice and which then connects with any Android or iOS device to stream favourite playlists from Spotify.
“We built the Gramofon with the same core technology as our Fon routers, which means the cloud jukebox is also a great Wi-Fi hotspot,” Fon said on its Kickstarter page.
“With the Gramofon, you get free Wi-Fi in millions of places around the world.
“Unlike most hotspots, with Gramofon you don’t need to use passwords. Your friends can use their Facebook logins to connect automatically.”
