From building your own Oculus Rift rival headset to animation and digital storytelling, the Darklight : Reboot festival this week in Dublin’s Smithfield will gather some of Ireland’s top designers and developers.
Oscar-nominated director Joshua Oppenheimer will answer questions about his film The Act of Killing on Friday (25 April) during a post-screening Q&A.
The Digital Strand of the Darklight Festival will cover a range of digital storytelling methodology, beginning with a Storytelling Hack Jam hackathon bringing together visual storytellers, web developers and designers to collaborate on real projects.
An online collective of indie animators will join forces Friday evening as part of the Late Night Work Club.
On Saturday (26 April), there will be a workshop in sound design and compositioning followed by a workshop featuring filmmaker Tommy Pallotta, who introduced new visual techniques in Richard Linklater’s Walking Life and A Scanner Darkly.
On Sunday (27 April), as well as a discussion on virtual reality, digital fans will have the opportunity to find out how to assemble their own virtual-reality headset in a workshop entitled ‘Oculus Rift Bedamned’.
The Darklight Festival runs 24-27 April.
