The new Apple iPhone 6

Eager would-be owners of the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus jumped onto Apple’s online store at midnight early today, right when pre-ordering began – and crashed the site.

Apple Inc.’s website collapsed under increased traffic early this morning, The Financial Post reported.

Potential customers reported slow load times and a long delay in the devices becoming available to purchase.

Later this morning, some users found the site was down, or intermittently available.

So some online shoppers took to the websites of mobile carriers, such as O2 and EE, to try to pre-order the smartphones there – and crashed those sites, as well, CNet reported.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus began today in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK. Both phones will be available in stores in those countries next week.
