Carphone Warehouse creates lush infographic on the history of the iPhone

22 Sep 2014

In advance of this Friday’s iPhone 6 release, Carphone Warehouse have produced a lush new infographic depicting the smartphone’s history.

Entitled Destination 6: The Evolution of the iPhone, the graph chronicles the development and advancement of the world’s top selling mobile, from the first generation released back in 2007 to the latest version of the device.

Included in the chart are quotes from several industry ‘experts’ who initially predicted the iPhone would be unable to survive in a market then dominated by Nokia, Motorola and Blackberry. Seven years on and the ‘Jesus Phone’, as it’s been dubbed, has sold over 550m units. Scroll down to view the graph.

Apple’s dominance looks very much set to continue. Earlier today the company announced that the iPhone 6 has become the fastest selling version of the device ever after with over 10 million units moved in the first weekend since the product’s release.

“We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook.

“While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”
