One-third of Irish Facebook users hide news feeds with many pet or baby photos – report

8 Oct 2014

A study by insurance company Irish Life has revealed a host of statistics that gives new insights into the habits of the Irish social network user, and for enthusiastic parents or pet owners, the news is rather bleak.

According to the report, 34pc of Irish Facebook users will hide a friends’ news feed if they post too many pictures of their pets or babies. Only 55pc, meanwhile, will allow themselves to be tagged in images.

24pc of Irish people have tried to find romance online (1 in 10, of which, have lied on their dating profile), while 40pc will sneakily peruse a person’s social media accounts before they go on a date.

A huge 62pc of Irish people are Facebook friends with at least one person they’ve never met – a surprising statistic when you consider just 1 in 5 Irish people are friends with their own mammy. 23pc will trim their friends list once a year.

The study also found that 15pc only use LinkedIn when looking for a job, and 43pc of Irish people are Facebook friends with at least five colleagues.
