How to remove your embarrassing photos from social media (infographic)

15 Oct 2014

While social media security is becoming ever more nuanced, allowing users to ensure what they post is only seen by its intended audience, embarrassing photos in people’s possession can be harder to control.

No matter how careful you are with your own security levels, you can’t control what others post. When material that’s potentially damaging to a person’s personal and professional life appears online, getting it removed is not always an easy task – particularly as the law does not always protect victims.

To advise people on how they can combat such instances, WhoIsHostingThis.com has produced an infographic explaining what people can do to remove embarrassing photos of themselves across Facebook, Google, Twitter, Instagram and other outlets.

The infographic also highlights the need for people to familiarise themselves with their options by including startling statistics. For example, 13pc of adults have had private material shared with others without their consent, while 10pc have had a former partner threaten to post explicit photos of them online.
