New smartphone app can teach Game of Thrones fans to speak Dothraki

15 Oct 2014

Game of Thrones fans rejoice! Soon you’ll be able to rewatch Khal Drogo’s greatest scenes without the need for distracting subtitles as a new app can teach you to speak the beautiful language of the Dothraki.

Produced by book publisher Random House in collaboration with linguist David J. Peterson – writer of the Dothraki language for the HBO series – the app teaches fans to have conversations through interactive games, a grammar summary, culture notes and conversational dialogue. Over 300 vocabulary flashcards are also included.

The app – which requires iOS 7.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch – is being released as part of wider series of products that teaches the language, including a book and CD package and, most incredibly, a one-year expanded online course.

Click below to see how Peterson created the Dothraki course. Game of Thrones will hack and slash its way back onto our screens this April.
