Microsoft confirms Windows 10 updates for existing Lumia Phone 8 devices

14 Nov 2014

Tech giant Microsoft has confirmed all Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices will be upgraded to new operating system Windows 10 next year.

As pointed out by Windows Central and The Verge, Microsoft announced the news via its official Lumia Twitter account while answering customer queries.

When asked if Nokia Lumia 930 will update to Windows 10, @Lumia wrote: “There will be Windows 10 upgrades for all Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices. And we will release new Windows 10 models in the future!”

Windows 10 is scheduled to be released next year, although the exact date has yet to be announced. Future phones won’t, however, be released under the Nokia label, since Microsoft began rebranding all devices to Microsoft Lumia last month.

Signs the Nokia brand was about to be killed off was evident back in April, following Microsoft’s US$7.1bn acquisition of the company’s devices and services business. Microsoft began referring to the mobile division as Microsoft Mobile Oy rather than Nokia.
