Spotify reveals new discovery tool ‘Top Tracks in Your Network’

11 Dec 2014

Music-streaming platform Spotify has launched a new music-discovery tool called Top Tracks in Your Network, which shows the most played songs amongst the people you follow.

The new feature appears to attempt to fix an anomaly that we all struggle with – 3m songs and what the heck should I listen to?

Spotify said today that one out of every five Spotify streams comes from a user listening to another user’s music.

“Top Tracks in Your Network is a new chart showing the most played songs among the people you follow,” said Spotify’s Diego Planas Rego, product manager with Spotify.

“The more popular a song is with your friends, the higher it is up the chart. Refreshed daily, the new chart can be found in the Browse section under Top Lists. A drop-down list of the people listening to the song can be found next to the track details.

“Now, when you go to an artist or album you’ll see who’s been listening – a great way to discover which of your friends share your taste in music,” Rego said.

The new Top Tracks in Your Network will roll out from today on iOS and Android devices and will eventually appear on Spotify’s desktop app.
