Sony to launch TV streaming service PlayStation Vue in Q1 2015

6 Jan 2015

Sony’s online TV streaming service PlayStation Vue has been given its full debut with the announcement at CES 2015 that it will be released in the US in the coming months.

HAving started out as an invite-only beta for PlayStation owners last November in the US, the service is aiming to bring satellite TV to those without a satellite dish and set-top box with an initial offering of 75 channels when given its full release.

Aside from accessing live TV, the service will also include on-demand services to give extra competition, in the US at least with Hulu and, of course, Netflix.

While the first users of the service will be comprised of Sony’s gaming console owners, the Japanese company did confirm at CES 2015 that it will be gradually rolled out to other devices outside of the PlayStation, both Sony and non-Sony, including the iPad.

The company confirmed that it will act in a similar fashion to Netflix with a monthly subscription, although given it being in the early stages of its release, the cost has yet to be decided.

So far, Sony have only confirmed details for the US market and have yet to reveal what they have in-store for other international markets.
