The Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

iPhone 6 Plus users use twice as much data as iPhone 6 users, according to the Citrix Mobile Analytics report for the first half of 2015.

The report surmises that the difference is due to people being more likely to view video on the larger screen.

It recommends that both subscribers and IT departments be aware of how phablet-sized devices could impact on mobile data pricing plans and budgets.

The mobile user experience is increasingly becoming a video experience, according to the report.

The top 5 mobile games ranked by data volume now all contain video, compared to only two of the top 5 in the first quarter of 2014.

Sports-related video content on mobile has more than doubled, from 21pc of all sports content over mobile in the third quarter of 2014 to 50pc in the first quarter of 2015.

Lines are blurring between business and personal mobile usage

The Citrix report revealed that the number of enterprise-managed devices grew 72pc year-over-year.

iOS remains the most dominant mobile platform in the enterprise at 64pc worldwide.

Android is gaining popularity in Asia, and Windows is more than twice as popular in EMEA (16pc as it is in North America (7pc)).

Some 71pc of managed devices in the financial industry are on iOS and there is a 39pc penetration of managed Android devices in healthcare.

“The line between personal and business mobility continues to blur as people routinely use the same smartphones and tablets across every part of their lives,” said Chris Fleck, vice-president of Mobility Solutions and Alliances at Citrix.

“It’s no longer possible to maintain artificial boundaries of personal and business mobility.”
