‘Very haunted’ Macbook disappears from eBay without a trace

12 Feb 2015

A haunted Macbook that was put up for sale on online auction site eBay, fetching bids of in the thousands of dollars, has vanished in front of our very eyes.

Listed by eBay user wfatzinger, a mysterious figure with a shady past not yet revealed, the 2007 13.3in white Macbook drew interest due to its spooky history.

“The computer works great and may also be haunted by a ghost or specter. (sic),” claimed the seller, who assured bidders that the spirit world had not sent any evil demons to live in the machine, rather a helpful, loving ghost.

Well unfortunately, despite gaining a reported US$6,200 bid from one buyer – the last screenshot we have is a little over half that – the item has been removed from ebay, “because there was an error in the listing.”

The haunted Macbook was fetching staggering bids on eBay

Wfatzinger explains in detail how the haunting came about, following an ill advised overnight stay in a spooky graveyard (featuring green nostalgic fog) where he used his Macbook for background music as he practised his sketching.

Forgetting to bring it home with him, Wfatzinger presumes a spirit found a home in the Macbook then and there, but luckily he recovered the machine the next day.

The friendly ghost

Now helping out with chores around the house like vacuuming, and even leaving doting letters for Wfatzinger (handwritten, rather than typed, as the ghost is from a time before computers) it seems this helper Macbook is quite the nifty treat.

In his original selling post, Wfatzinger even included a certificate of haunting, printed out from an application on the machine and signed by the seller himself – he had asked a psychic, who confirmed the haunting, to sign it but unfortunately she disappeared too.

Interestingly the haunted Macbook – with 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, running OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) – is intelligent, too.

A quick learner

Presuming the spirit is in fact from a time before any electronic machinery, Wfatzinger suggests it learned how to vacuum from watching he and his family use the device over the years.

Following the suggestion from a potential bidder that the spirit was in fact from an era before computers, but after vacuums, Wfatzinger proposes his alternate theory.

“It’s true that I said in the description that he does not understand how computers work. However, I believe this is because I haven’t got another computer to demonstrate for him. Perhaps if you win the computer you might be able to teach him.”

Alas that bidder was ultimately unsuccessful as the machine – which came with haunted music on iTunes, ghostly photos in a folder on the desktop, Edgar Allan Poe stories pasted into text docs on the desktop, collected ghostly writings from the ghost with a pen and paper and some of Wfatzinger’s better sketches (of graves) – is no longer available.

Indeed @billyfatzinger, who claims to be the person behind the attempted sale, isn’t a happy camper following eBay taking it down.
