Apple sends out invites for ‘special’ event in San Francisco on 9 March

26 Feb 2015

Consumer tech giant Apple is about to reveal some new stuff and has issued invitations to media to attend a special event at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, California, on 9 March.

While we know an Apple Watch is imminent could it be new products like the much anticipated Beats music subscription service?

Also mulled over for the past year has been talk of a new, larger screened 12-inch iPad aimed at business users.

The event could also be the occasion for an update on what Apple is doing with iOS and more specifically its internet of things platforms via HealthKit and HomeKit.

There has also been talk of Apple working with studios to create its own rival streaming platform to Netflix, since the California tech giant has been making very little headway with TV networks on the Apple TV front.

While many had speculated that Apple would start selling the Apple Watch in April, it could go on sale even sooner in March as Apple tends to ship within days, even hours, of on-stage reveals.

Another not-so-crazy bet could be new developments on the MacBook front. In October Apple unveiled the iMac Retina 5K desktop – could there be a new line of MacBook devices with the same 5K display technology on the way?

As usual the invite says very little except to invite press to attend an event on 9 March at the Yerba Bueno Centre in downtown San Francisco at 9am (5pm IST).

Usually there’s a hint of some kind in the invite. Maybe the words ‘Spring forward’ suggest more developments on the wearables front for the fitness minded. The vibrant purple and green colours indicate perhaps something happening on the display side of things.

Having been in the Yerba Bueno Centre twice in the last two years, it is a massive events venue and much bigger than the more intimate theatre style events Apple has held in recent times so it’s likely Apple is hosting a bigger crowd than before.

But, as usual, only Apple really knows.
