A cinematic, super-violent new trailer for forthcoming beat ’em up Mortal Kombat X was unveiled earlier today, featuring music from the once somewhat popular metal band System of a Down.

Game developer NetherRealm recruited the group’s Shavo Odadjian to fuse the visceral preview with System of a Down’s 2001 track Chop Suey. “I felt more like I was editing a movie,” Odadjian said in a video posted to YouTube yesterday. “I kind of forgot that it was a video game.”

The latest instalment in the long-running beat ’em up series, Mortal Kombat X picks up where the 2011 reboot left off before moving 25 years into the future, where new characters, beloved veterans, and the next-generation kids of the older fighters will battle. In recent weeks we’ve brought you the news that stalwart character Johnny Cage, Friday The 13th’s Jason Voorhees, and the Predator from the eighties action classic of the same name will all appear as character, the latter two featuring solely in the game’s additional Kombat Pack.

NetherRealm has also made steps to ensure those who cowardly attempt to quit a bout will lose via ‘Quitality’. The feature means players won’t be able to massage their win/loss record by exiting a game right before their opponent lands the killer blow. “If you quit, your head blows up and the other guy wins,” said the company bluntly.

Mortal Kombat X is due for release on April 14 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles. Click below to watch the new trailer and Odadjian discussing his input.
