Google’s new Android Gmail app unifies multiple email addresses

31 Mar 2015

It’s the one email app to rule them all, and it’s Gmail! Google has launched a new update to the Android Gmail app that acts as a unified inbox for Gmail, Exchange server and all other POP/IMAP accounts.

This means you can put all your email in one place, even if you are using Yahoo! or Outlook.com addresses.

Starting now users will be able to view all their email at once, regardless of which account it is from, using the new “All Inboxes” option.

“This way you can read and respond to all your messages without having to hop between accounts,” explained Régis Décamps, Gmail software engineer.

All your email, in one place

The new Gmail for Android includes a new Conversation view that includes messages from Yahoo!, Outlook.com and other IMAP/POP accounts neatly stacked as one conversation.

The improved Gmail also has improved search features like better auto-complete.

The new app has been designed to include more responsive animations, such as for when you open and close conversations, larger attachment previews and the ability to save documents and pictures to Drive with a single tap.

The new Gmail Android app will roll out on Google Play in the coming days.
