Sky today has begun the roll out of the latest version of Sky+ which includes new Planner capabilities for users to smart series link future seasons of shows, as well as a new ‘delete all’ button.
The software update is now rolling out to customers and will be available to more than 8.5m homes in the UK and Ireland with compatible Sky+HD boxes by the end of June this year.
The move comes just months after Sky began offering fibre broadband services in Ireland and just weeks ahead of the next season of Game of Thrones, which broadcasts on 13 April.
Sky said that from today, upcoming recordings are in a new ‘Scheduled’ page alongside Smart Series Links, which not only records the current season, but also remembers to record all episodes of future seasons when they come back on TV.
And viewers that love binging on the more than 300 Sky box sets can now delete whole series from their Planner in one go using the yellow ‘Delete All’ button.

Trailers in Sky Movies and Sky Store
As well as the changes to Planner, Sky has introduced movie trailers to Sky Movies and the Sky Store, so users can get a taste of what hundreds of movies will be like.
Sky has also worked with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) to develop a new accessibility setting for partially sighted customers that allows them to increase colour contrast and bold lettering.
New parental controls include a Family setting that hides all adult channels, PIN protect all pre-watershed playback of on-demand content with a 12 rating and above, as well as PIN protect Sky Store purchases.
The new Sky+ update also comes with an Eco Mode that automatically switches off the Sky+ HD box from 2.45am to 5.45am to save more energy.
“We know the Planner is crucial in helping customers organise their TV viewing so we’ve made some helpful changes,” said Ann-Marie MacKay, director of Products and Customer Growth at Sky Ireland.
“Now when you record the latest season of Game of Thrones, you’ll find the most recent episodes right at the top of your Planner.
“And that’s not all, there are even more improvements coming later this year, including a simple but very clever feature that lets customers go back to the start of a film on Sky Movies if they’ve missed the beginning.”
