Is GTA V now working on Oculus Rift?

16 Apr 2015

Action-adventure behemoth Grant Theft Auto V (GTA) is one of the most popular computer games in history. But is it about to get even better?

People have started uploading footage onto YouTube of their own hack on GTA V, whereby they make them compatible with Oculus Rift.

It’s not a comprehensive match, with much of Oculus Rift’s capabilities lost in these examples, but the fact that gamers out there are working on ways to make the pairing, it may not be long before Rockstar – the game’s publisher – takes an interest.

The first video, uploaded by Falandorn yesterday, shows how GTA V can look while riding a motorcycle. Falandorn claims to have combined the two pieces of technology using vorpX, which converts games into VR, and an Oculus Rift Dev Kit 2.

Another video, uploaded by ImmersiveGamer83 gives a fairly lengthy walkthrough of how it’s done – crediting alot of the work to a Ralph at vorpX.

There are a few NSFW comments in that video, but if you skip through to about 7.30 you’ll see him walking around in the game using his Oculus Rift headset to determine direction and sight.

Meanwhile below is a short, snappy walkthrough of what it all looks like.
