Windows 10 set for late July launch, according to processor maker

Windows enthusiasts patiently waiting for the newest version of the operating system to be released may now have a better idea of when the big day will arrive.

While Microsoft has not officially announced when Windows 10 is to be made available, computer processor maker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) may have let the news slip in the company’s earnings call last week.

As pointed out by Geekwire, AMD CEO Lisa Su wrote: “What we also are factoring in is, you know, with the Windows 10 launch at the end of July, we are watching sort of the impact of that on the back-to-school season, and expect that it might have a bit of a delay to the normal back-to-school season inventory build-up.”

Late July makes sense as Windows 10 is expected to drop this summer. AMD are known to be building hardware for the operting system, which will work across all devices, from PCs, to tablets and smartphones. Microsoft has also previously revealed that it will be designed for the internet of things (IoT) from the get-go.

“For the first time, a new version of Windows for small footprint IoT devices will be available – for free – when Windows 10 launches,” said Microsoft executive vice-president Terry Myerson last month.

“Windows 10 will offer versions of Windows for a diverse set of IoT devices, ranging from powerful devices like ATMs and ultrasound machines, to resource-constrained devices like gateways. Through key partnerships with the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Intel, Qualcomm and others, we will provide great options for commercial devices builders, hobbyists and students.”
