Popular web series High Maintenance is about to make the leap to premium cable after US network HBO announced it has acquired the rights to the show.

As reported by TechCrunch, HBO cut the deal with creators Ben Sinclair and Katja Blichfeld without the involvement of Vimeo. The network will now air the next six episodes of High Maintenance, and has acquired the rights to the show’s prior seasons too.

The first season of the comedy – which follows the adventures of a nameless marijuana deliveryman called The Guy (played by Sinclair) – was released online in 2012 free of charge. In June 2014, Vimeo announced it would provide financial backing for future episodes, which would appear via the video-sharing website’s Vimeo on Demand platform.

High Maintenance has proven to be one of today’s most highly-acclaimed online comedies,” said HBO programming president Michael Lombardo. “We are thrilled to bring this sophisticated and clever series to our HBO audience.”
