Irish online backup provider KeepITsafe has chosen telecoms and internet service provider Digiweb’s state-of-the-art data centre in Blanchardstown as its primary site.
The deal, valued at €200,000 over three years, and involving National Broadband and Digiweb, will provide KeepITsafe with guaranteed power, network connection and around-the-clock security of its servers.
Market conditions and the growing weariness of tape backup have caused many Irish businesses to wonder how secure their data really is. Online backup has many scalable advantages, especially with technology maturation and the development of secure data centres, according to the partners.
“A data protection strategy should be top of the agenda at board meetings. Online backup centralises resources and, apart from giving companies a significant return on investment, it also gives an intangible benefit of knowing your data is stored offsite and is immediately available,” said Eoin Blacklock, managing director of KeepITsafe. “This peace of mind alone will keep any business running smoothly.”
Blacklock described data backup as a core “necessity” for any company. KeepITsafe has seen too many mishaps and companies losing crucial business information due to failing to implement a backup plan, he said.
Set up in 2003, KeepITsafe has provided its online backup solution to over 600 clients and 80 partners to date. It has backed up more than four billion files and restored over 30 million lost files over five years.
Digiweb’s custom-built data centre is already home to some of Ireland’s most successful companies and technology agencies, having opened its doors in March 2007.
In June of this year, the company announced its plans to fill over 200 knowledge-based jobs over three years were being brought forward due to large expansion plans.
