eSpatial’s web GIS system for Florida’s city of Tampa

27 Apr 2010

Dublin global web GIS company eSpatial’s technology is to be used by the Florida city of Tampa in its comprehensive, city-wide online mapping and analysis system – the first city in the US to use eSpatial’s latest iSMART technology.

eSpatial’s Web GIS solution will make spatial data and analysis available across the city through a standard web browser interface that supports the city’s 35-plus departments.

The web mapping and geographic business intelligence capabilities in eSpatial’s Web GIS will enhance the city’s business processes while facilitating data sharing and interoperability and significantly reducing the complexity and cost of deploying an enterprise-wide, web-services based GIS solution.

eSpatial’s web GIS supports strategy

The deployment of eSpatial’s web GIS supports Tampa’s strategy to rationalise the cost of traditional GIS products, to standardise their geospatial data repository on Oracle’s spatial database platform and to deliver web-based applications, minimising the substantial cost associated with licensing and maintaining traditional desktop GIS platforms.

“We’re excited about the capabilities inherent in eSpatial’s Web GIS solution and we are looking forward to rolling out applications that are supported by a centrally-managed Oracle data repository,” said Dr Robert Austin, Enterprise Applications Integration manager at the City of Tampa.

“More importantly, the solution will improve internal processes, enhance our public service delivery and reduce application development time. The significant cost savings that we have identified are also very welcome, especially in these times of budget cuts and constraints,” Austin said.

eSpatial’s Web GIS enables the delivery of location information internally throughout government departments, as well as to the general public, delivering increased internal efficiency and online public service delivery, as well as helping achieve local government business goals.

“We’re looking forward to delivering a web-based solution that will deliver business benefits, such as increased internal access and efficiency as well as enhanced customer satisfaction,” said Philip O’Doherty, eSpatial CEO.
