Online scam promises €120 for filling out Tesco survey

22 Aug 2014

Cyber-criminals are at it again, this time luring Tesco shoppers with the promise of €120 in exchange for them filling out a survey – and handing over their credit-card details.

Internet security company ESET Ireland has issued a warning about this recent scam, which is appearing in consumers’ email inboxes.

The email is titled ‘YOU GET PAYD FOR YOUR FEEDBACK’.

The first clue that the email is a fake is the trademark phishing spelling error, ESET Ireland pointed out.

The contents of the email are as such:

When users click on the ‘Take the survey’ link they are taken to a fake Tesco-looking webpage that contains a survey with questions about customer satisfaction and shopping habits.

The survey page ends with the words, “Thank you for taking the time to respond to this survey. In return, we will add 120 € credit to your account just for your time. Please enter your account details to credit your 120 € reward”.

Users are then asked to enter personal details on a form, including their name, address, date of birth, bank account information, and credit card number, expiration date and verification number.

“Don’t fall for it!” ESET Ireland said. “Ignore this and similar emails and stay safe online.”
