Constantin Beier, CEO, Aon Centre for Innovation and Analytics (ACIA)

At the Web Summit in Dublin, Constantin Beier, CEO of the Aon Centre for Innovation and Analytics (ACIA), discussed the growing importance of data and analytics in business and society.

Beier and representatives from Aon’s Dublin-based data analytics centre were at the Web Summit to connect with an international audience passionate about data and technology – just the right crowd for the ACIA.

According to Beier, Aon is the world’s pre-eminent provider of analytics in insurance and areas such as pensions and HR, focusing their analysis on risk and people. However, Beier sees data analytics as a multi-faceted strategy that can be applied to innumerable areas.

“I think the really interesting thing is that data analytics is a cross-sectional capability and field, that it can apply to so many areas from social sciences to technology to business,” he said.

“And that’s, I think, what makes it so attractive for many people to get into because it’s a really varied field,” he added.

“Even though you’re working with technology, you can work in a very creative manner.”

Overall, Beier sees data analytics as something that’s here to stay, with a lot more untapped potential to be discovered.

“I think we’re just actually at the beginning of the curve of a tremendous development,” he said.

“I think data and analytics has the potential to change many industries, even society, without wanting to exaggerate.”
