In advance of the 2011 Irish roll out of the Nissan LEAF, Nissan has announced it will introduce an information and communication technology (ICT) system for its electric vehicles.
The LEAF will feature the ICT and the car manufacturer believes the infotainment technology system will it deliver “convenience, comfort and security” for its electric vehicles.
The ICT system will enable future LEAF drivers to connect at all times to the data and information they require, such as electric vehicle usage history (which can track how frequently the vehicle was used to gauge its carbon output) and battery conditions, remote control for battery charging and climate control.
Onboard and offboard features
There are a whole host of features that can be accessed by the driver and those around them while the vehicle is driving (Onboard) – reachable map area display, charging sport updates and timer charging functions – and while the vehicle is stationary (Offboard) – remote control functions pertaining to the battery, destination estimates and driving range, electricity rate simulation, ranking function and route planners.
Nissan recently announced the release of an electric vehicle built to cater for short-distance drivers in Japan.
The Nissan LEAF (Leading, Environmentally friendly, Affordable, Family car), a five-door hatchback all-electric car, is scheduled for Irish release early in 2011.
