iPhone 4s to blast off with space shuttle

A pair of iPhone 4s to help conduct experiments are to be on board NASA's space shuttle Atlantis when it blasts off for its final mission on 8 July.

The smartphones will be heading to the U.S. National Laboratory on the International Space Station, Odyssey Space Research has announced.

A custom-made iOS app titled 'SpaceLab for iOS' will be on the iPhone 4s, and the crew will use them to carry out four experiments.

They will probably return to Earth on board a Russian Soyuz vehicle in the fall of 2011.
