Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) has been named an official honoree in the Experimental & Innovation category in the upcoming Webby Awards for its Fuse app to help school kids learn all about algebra.

HMH has designed the maths app for the Apple iPad.

The app has been designed to engage with the students and help them with their maths through the digital media medium via video tutorials and through individualised lesson plans.

Just last week, HMH released its learning app Curious George At The Zoo for iOS devices. The app itself was developed in HMH's Irish R&D hub.

Based on the Curious George portfolio of books, the app aims to encourage children's curiosity by exploring the zoo through a touchscreen interface.

The app, which went live on the iTunes App Store on 12 April, is available for free until May, when it will be priced at €1.59.

As for the Webbys, the winners will be announced on 1 May and the awards will be presented on 21 May. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, musician David Bowie and Instagram founder Kevin Systrom will select the Webby winners, while people can also submit their votes in the Webby People's Voice Awards.
